2015: The Death of Banner Ads?

 Why Banners Are Making a Comeback

Almost every year, some new report or article talks about “The Death of Banner Ads.” Yet here we are over 20 years after the very first banner appeared and banners are still going strong!

Of course there have been many changes throughout the years, but banner ads are still one of the most profitable traffic sources available today. And 2015 is going to be even more profitable for banner users.

Here’s why…

  1. The recession has forced many banner networks to lower their prices, making it more affordable for you to advertise.  A recent report by Credit Suisse predicted that average CPMs were going to decrease 6.5% from $2.46 to $2.30 between 2008 and 2013.
  2. Less competition. In recent years, many advertisers moved towards “search” (or text) ads its CPC model (until recently, banner advertisers were forced to pay on a CPM basis.) And now, even though the banner world has changed and offers a CPC model, many advertisers are still solely focused on search ads, making it easier for you to gain market share with display ads.
  3. Banners bring you instant, predictable traffic. Think of all the people who have been burned by becoming dependent on search advertising and affiliate marketing in recent years… 2009 alone saw many Google Adwords accounts banned (in addition to continual Google slaps) and recent FTC regulations have left many affiliate programs crippled. SEO can be great but can also be very slow and you’re at the mercy of search engine algorithms. With banners, you get instant, predictable traffic.

Few people realize how shockingly effective banner advertising can be when done right.

At a recent Armand Morin Big Seminar event, online millionaire Ryan Deiss admitted that out of all online traffic sources, banner advertising was his most successful one (bringing in over 1,100 new people PER DAY to his opt-in list in one market alone!)

But you don’t have to be a Guru to make banners work for you, you just need to take advantage of favorable market conditions (like now) and learn what makes for an effective banner, which is what we’re aiming to do on this site.
